Learning self-defense is empowering, builds confidence, and helps to keep you safe. You’ll develop the knowledge, skills, and mindset to defend yourself and your loved ones. You will train how to avoid dangerous situations, and be more able to protect yourself and others. All while improving your health and fitness.
Martial arts and self-defense are both ways to improve your ability to protect yourself, but they differ in their primary focus and goals:
As the name suggests, Martial Arts are an art form. Martial Arts are steeped in history and tradition. Martial Arts are trained in order to engage with other martial artists in competition.
Self-Defense is a more practical approach for situations you may encounter in the real world by teaching techniques specifically designed to help you protect yourself in dangerous situations. Self-Defense techniques pull from various martial arts styles, but focus on efficiency over aesthetics.
Proficiency in anything requires ongoing training. However, we can teach you some key strategies for basic self defense in as little as 1-2 classes, depending on individual ability to absorb the techniques. However, at Vigilant Defense Academy, no two classes are exactly the same. So every time you attend, you will be introduced to something new.
Our highly trained instructors have years of experience in various forms of martial arts. We have a diverse skillset, pulling from our experience dealing with the human nervous system, and military combat techniques. We strongly emphasize simple and practical self-defense techniques that have been battle-tested in real-life situations. We foster a mentality of always retaining the tactical advantage and avoiding conflict when possible. But when conflict finds you, be confident you will have the skillset to overcome it.
Our classes are suitable for anyone 12 and above. If the participant is under 18, they will need their parent / guardian signature. If the participant is under 16, they will need their parent / guardian to participate in the class with them.
We highly recommend participants first take the Foundation Class as an introduction to the cirriculum. We then suggest students take Basic Classes until they have demonstrated proficiency in the basic techniques before moving on to Intermediate Classes. Then the same in intermediate before moving on the Advanced Classes.
Those with martial arts / self-defense experience may start in a higher level course. Reach out to us if you'd like to do this and we can help you figure out which level is right for you.
It is recommended to bring comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes. All additional equipment will be provided by Vigilant Defense Academy.
